Lets Talk Bones

  • Where do you get your bones?

All bones sold thought the In-Between are ethically sourced. I or my husband has collected them. We do not endorse the pointless harm of animals for any reason. If we have not collected them ourselves we have gotten them though local farmer, hunters or other collectors.

  • How do you clean your bones?

All of our bones go through water maceration and are fully degreased prior to being sold. Some bones do not get whitened and still hold a more earthy look to them.

We do NOT boil, use bleach or power wash any of our bones. While some people practice these things, they can lead to improperly cleaned bones. Bones can still be full of grease which will lead to discoloration. These practices can also lead to weaking the bones and can create a hazard for you, your family or pets.

  • Why aren't there any bird bones or parts?

It is a federal crime in the US to be in possession of majority of birds under the MBTA of 1918. We pride ourselves on not selling or using any illegal species, protected species and make a point to follow local, state and federal law.

We have provided the link for the MBTA of 1918. We encourage you to take a look!

  • Why Should Bones be cleaned?

Bones can carry disease and infection. Without proper cleaning and care you have a higher chance of getting sick or hurt. Until a full cleaning process is done, you cannot see if there anything in the bones. Homes with a higher humidity can bring out grease and grave wax so proper cleaning prior is important.

  • Why bones?

Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated by the concept of beaty in death and anatomy. Thew combination of the two lead to my love for bones and creating with them.

Showcasing the beauty of beast after its life is a way to honor the life of the animal as well. There are many accounts where people in history have used the skulls of their beloved livestock to decorate their homes and honor the life that came from them. In many digs, bones have been found with runes or symbols carved into them to preserve stories and have been used to make tools.
